Computing - Asus to Build Bases in More Asian Markets
May 19, 2004
Asus is planning to establish ten maintenance centers across Asia during 2004, in countries such as India, New Zealand, Australia, South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, and Turkey. These additions will join the six maintenance centers currently run in Taiwan.

With particular focus on India, the company is setting up a Mumbai-based operation center, which will staff 80 employees by the end of the year. Asus had previously maintained a presence in India by selling notebook PCs through local distributors. After stationing an official sales representative there last year, the branch office set up this year will manage its business development in local and Southeast Asia markets. Asus plans to tap further into the Indian market, which has long been dominated by secondhand models, because the government is now considering cutting tariffs on PCs next year.
